HHL Honors Brother Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with Day of Service
ANNAPOLIS, MD. On January 15, 2024, the Brothers of the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, honored Brother Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service. The event was coordinated by Brothers Andre Dillard, Jonathan Brailsford, Michael
Askins, Michael Hardman, and David Butler-Sims. The day began with making and packing lunches for the homeless and through a partnership with Dr. Shawn White (an honoree at the Eta Eta Lambda Foundation’s first annual Masquerade Ball) and her non-profit, Food for Thought,
lunch for children who depend on school lunches for meals.
Over 20 Eta Eta Lambda Chapter Brothers and over 15 other volunteers assisted with the assembly of sandwiches and the composition of the bags and followed with delivery to three coordinated locations in Anne Arundel County. Deliveries were made to The Lighthouse Shelter in Annapolis, Sarah’s House in Fort Meade, and at Park Elementary School in Brooklyn Park.

This was the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter’s first year coordinating with Food for Thought for the Day of Service, and what was borne out of the event is a mutual desire for continued partnership throughout the year.

In total, the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated assembled and
donated more than 300 lunch packs to the most vulnerable in our communities on the day of
service.

Eta Eta Lambda Chapter Brothers closely identifies with the mission of the Food for Thought organization, as its vision of supporting children and families. Being able to show concern and care for the unhoused in our communities through supporting Sarah’s House and The Lighthouse
are essential components of our core value in being of servants of all.
