On February 28, 2025, mentors of the Alpha Academy Mentoring Program, an initiative of the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., accompanied their high school mentees to the CIAA High School Education Day held in Baltimore, Maryland.
The group traveled by chartered bus, setting the tone for a full day of exploration and learning. Students participated in a college and career fair, where they met with university representatives, learned about scholarships and admissions requirements, and explored opportunities at several Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
In addition to the fair, mentees had the opportunity to tour a college campus, giving them a firsthand glimpse of college life and the academic environments they are working hard to enter. The experience not only exposed students to higher education options but also reinforced Alpha Academy’s mission to prepare young men for success in college, career, and life.
“Exposure creates opportunity. Every moment our mentees spend in environments that expand their vision helps them believe in what’s possible.”— Bro. Dr. Adrian Hood -- Alpha Academy Drone Program Instructor
The trip reflected the fraternity’s national initiative, “Go to High School, Go to College,” which emphasizes academic excellence and higher education readiness. The day ended with smiles, renewed motivation, and the belief that their dreams are within reach.
