In February 2025, Session 5 of the Alpha Academy Mentoring Program, sponsored by the Eta Eta Lambda Foundation, Inc., was devoted to Project Alpha—one of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s national signature programs designed to provide education, motivation, and skill-building for young men.
The session featured an invited speaker, Bro. Dr. Hector Knox, MD, who spoke to the high school mentees about the principles of responsibility, respect, and decision-making. His presentation offered valuable insights on making informed choices and understanding the connection between physical health, emotional maturity, and lifelong success.
Following the discussion, Dr. Knox shared that he was genuinely impressed by the mentees’ level of engagement, curiosity, and maturity during the dialogue — a testament to the strength of the Alpha Academy program and the dedication of its mentors.
Meanwhile, the other mentees participated in a parallel discussion on mental and physical health, exploring topics such as stress management, self-care, and the importance of maintaining healthy habits.
“These conversations help our young men connect the dots between discipline, health, and leadership. It’s about preparing them not just for college, but for life.”— Bro. Dr. Adrian Hood, Alpha Academy Mentor
Sessions like this reflect Alpha Academy’s holistic approach to mentorship — combining academic preparation with life skills, wellness, and personal development — in direct alignment with Alpha Phi Alpha’s Project Alpha initiative
