Continuing a proud tradition of partnership and service, the Eta Eta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. collaborated to host the 2025 Youth Symposium on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Severn Senior Center.
The event was open to the public and welcomed students, parents, and community members for a day filled with interactive learning, empowerment, and fun. Designed to engage young people and their families, the symposium featured:
🧠 Hands-on demonstrations and interactive exhibits
🍽️ Free food for all attendees
👨👩👧👦 Parent workshops on education, career development, and community engagement
✂️ Free haircuts for youth participants
🏢 Vendor booths showcasing local organizations, services, and products
🎭 Live demonstrations and performances throughout the day
The program reflected both organizations’ shared commitment to uplifting youth and families through education, mentorship, and community service.
“Partnerships like this are what community is all about—two organizations coming together to provide opportunities, knowledge, and support for the next generation.”— Bro. Michael Bertty, Chapter President
For Alpha Phi Alpha, this collaboration directly supports national initiatives such as “Go to High School, Go to College” and “A Voteless People Is a Hopeless People”—helping young people prepare for leadership and civic engagement.
The day concluded with gratitude, new connections, and a renewed sense of unity among participants, mentors, and families.
