The City of Annapolis has recognized Bro. Michael Bertty with a City Council Citation for his outstanding leadership and dedication in organizing this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and African Diaspora Festival, held on May 10, 2025.


On behalf of the residents of the City of Annapolis, the following message was presented:


“On behalf of the residents of the City of Annapolis, we are pleased to confer upon you this City Council Citation thanking you for volunteering and organizing this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade and African Diaspora Festival on May 10, 2025. The parade partnership between the City and the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps helps residents and visitors to Annapolis celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and enjoy immersion in the culture of the African Diaspora Festival. The partnership between the City of Annapolis and the African Diaspora Festival is vital to promoting and educating our communities about African and American cultural connections. We thank you for your work and congratulate you on a successful event!”

This recognition highlights Bro. Bertty’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, cultural awareness, and the preservation of Dr. King’s legacy. Through his leadership and collaboration with the Annapolis Drum and Bugle Corps, the event once again united residents and visitors in a celebration of heritage, music, and service.


The partnership between the City of Annapolis and the African Diaspora Festival continues to be a powerful example of what can be achieved when communities come together in the spirit of education, unity, and pride.
