On October 29, 2025, brothers from across the Mid-Atlantic Association of Alpha Chapters (MAAC) participated in the first of a three-part Parliamentary Procedure Training Series, led by Eta Eta Lambda Chapter Vice President, Bro. Dr. David Butler-Sims, who also serves as the MAAC Parliamentarian.

The session was well attended and sparked engaging discussion and thoughtful Q&A throughout. Participants explored how parliamentary procedure—when properly understood—can streamline meetings, enhance productivity, and ensure the business of Alpha is conducted efficiently and with order.

During the session, MAAC President Bro. Mtokufa Ngwenya commended the engagement of attendees, noting that “everyone who started the training was still in the training at the end.” He emphasized that such sustained attention reflects how interesting, informative, and useful the material was.

While parliamentary procedure is designed to move meetings forward systematically, without proper understanding, it can sometimes bring progress to a halt. Bro. Butler-Sims underscored the importance of regular training and refreshers, ensuring brothers remain equipped to uphold the fraternity’s traditions of discipline, decorum, and effective leadership.

This inaugural session laid a strong foundation for the remaining two installments of the series, which promise to further strengthen the procedural knowledge of Alpha men across the region—keeping us focused on the work of Alpha.
